Emma Brunton, M.S. (she/her)
Instructor, Health and Exercise Science
I’m an instructor in the Health and Exercise Science Department at Gustavus Adolphus College, and I’m thrilled to be back at my alma mater in a teaching role. Before returning to Gustavus, I spent over five years teaching health and physical education at the high school level, where I helped create and establish both the Hope Squad and the Mental Health Club. These student-led initiatives were designed to promote peer support and destigmatize mental health, and they quickly became a vital part of the school community. In recognition of this work, I was honored to receive the Golden Apple Award in 2021.
My teaching is rooted in the belief that physical wellness, mental health, and strong coaching practices go hand in hand. I’m passionate about helping future educators and coaches lead with empathy, purpose, and excellence.
I earned my bachelor’s degree from Gustavus in 2019 and completed my Master of Science in Community Health Education in May 2025, with a thesis focused on non-medication-based approaches to chronic pain management. I’m also entering my tenth year coaching swim and dive in the Mankato School District, where I’ve enjoyed building strong relationships and promoting lifelong fitness and resilience in student-athletes.
Alongside teaching and coaching, I bring a special interest in functional movement and athlete development. I’m excited to support students in their academic journeys while encouraging personal and professional growth.
